We got called back to a custom home in Brookhaven where the homeowners have put serious thought into every single design decision. The finishes in this house are next-level - textured wall coverings, light hardwood floors, natural wood furniture, layered neutrals. Everything has a purpose. So when the standard white outlets started sticking out against all those darker, more intentional surfaces, it was time to fix it.

The swap itself is straightforward from a technical standpoint. But getting it right in a home like this requires more than just pulling a receptacle and swapping it out. You have to make sure the fit is clean, the plate sits flush, and the color actually works with what's around it. A black outlet against that dark textured wall covering doesn't just look better - it disappears into the design the way it's supposed to. That's the whole point.

We also installed several designer switches throughout the home - and these are a step above what you'd find at a big box store. The brushed brass toggle switches with knurled hardware are genuinely beautiful. They look like something you'd find in a high-end European home. On one wall they're set against a soft watercolor-style wallcovering, and on another they're mounted against a clean white surface with polished brass accents. Both work. That's good design paired with good installation.

Here's what we tell homeowners all the time - you've probably spent weeks choosing paint colors, hardware, and fixtures. Your outlets and switches are something you touch every single day. They're not invisible. In a well-designed home, every element either adds to the look or takes away from it. These upgrades add to it.

We've had the chance to do quite a bit of electrical work for this Brookhaven household, and it's genuinely satisfying to be a part of a home that's being finished this carefully. Outlet and switch installation and replacement might sound minor, but in the right context, it's one of the most noticeable upgrades you can make.
